CHSP set to continue as a standalone program

The Australian Government has announced that the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) will be extended until 30 June 2029, continuing as a standalone program rather than being incorporated into the Support at Home program from mid-2027 as originally planned.

This announcement recognises the important role CHSP plays in helping older Australians maintain their independence, stay connected to their communities, and continue living safely in their own homes.

At Kirinari we have long advocated for this outcome and welcome the Government’s decision, which provides greater certainty for the more than 830,000 Australians who rely on CHSP services every day.

What This Means for You

If you currently receive support through the Commonwealth Home Support Programme, you can be confident that:

  • CHSP will continue as a standalone program through to 30 June 2029.
  • There will be no disruption to the services and supports you currently receive.
  • Funding for CHSP services will continue, providing greater certainty for participants, families and service providers.
