What is the commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP)?
The Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) is a government-funded service designed to help older Australians stay independent and comfortable in their own homes. It offers a little extra support when you need it and includes things like help with housework, transport so you can get to the shops or appointments, minor home maintenance and repairs, and nursing care.
Getting started
If you are finding everyday tasks more difficult, and feel you might benefit from some help, the first step is to complete an assessment through My Aged Care. This assessment will confirm your eligibility for assistance, and the types of support you can receive.
What does CHSP cover?
CHSP offers low-level home services, with the types of services you can receive dependent upon the outcome of your assessment. You will need to pay a small contribution towards the cost of your care.

- Home and community general respite
- Cottage respite
- Home modifications
- Home maintenance and repairs
- Domestic assistance
